  North-Wield

Uks Top Model news A popular venue for model and aviation shows, North-Wield is under threat by Epping Forest Council. The ex-wartime airfield is situated in Essex very close to epping. This is very sad news for us, model makers as we enjoy model shows held there, such as, Wings and Wheels. There also is a muched loved model flying club which has many members flying all sorts of models from training aircraft, to large scale B-17s. A lot happens at North -wield, there are all sorts of clubs and organiztions, there is even a weekly market which is very popular with the locals. The Airfield first opened in 1916 to be used by the RAF in WW1, it remained in military service right through the second world war, so this place is really steeped in history, and the fighter pilots of the war still come back every year for a reunion. North-Wield still remains an active airfield for civilion pilots and has some 30 planes fly through it every day. Local people are now planning a protest to try and save this muched loved airfield.

Guernsey Model Club Fun Day
August 24th 2003

Guernsey Model Club put on a superb display of aircraft today at their base, Chouet Headland in Guernsey. Many types and models of aircraft were on show with some awesome flying skills on display. The assembled crowd were treated to a fine display of helicopters, electric and combustion engined planes.

A fine selection of Aircraft!

Budding new pilots were able to link up to an experienced controller by means of a 'Buddy Link' system and have a go for themselves, whilst experienced pilots tried their luck at the limbo poles! A raffle was held for a brand new Electric plane or cash prize, congratulations to 'Jake' the winner who will be getting a surprise phone call shortly!

As promised, a selection of pictures are now online, click 'Read More' below:-

Check out this video clip taken using a wireless camera set up aboard a twin engined plane.

You'll need QuickTime to view it...
